Dahlia 's review Jul 23, I think a better word to describe this book would be "Creeps", because that is what this book gave me. I could not finish reading it. A friend recommended this book to me and when I heard it was about werewolves I was sceptical. I was sick and tired of werewolves and vampires. But, I still gave it a go. The reviews and the summary gave me false hope. I thought this book would offer me something original, better, interesting, imaginative.
Same old stuff, just a different cover and a different name on it. Where should I start? Here we have Grace, a 17 year-old-girl who is desperately in love with a werewolf. The author gave her a car, a boyfriend, parents that are away, no social life. A perfect heroine. Is that supposed to make her appear mature and interesting?
I don't think so. Then there is Sam, poor Sam, a mysterious hero to go with our dull heroine; he writes cheesy lyrics and broods about his fate. They want each other but they cannot have each other. They suffer. They need to suffer. A lot.
That is why it's not enough that their relationship is impossible, they must come from a dysfunctional family parents are never home, they ignore your existence , they must have false friends, enemies at school and so on. Now I could talk about the writing style, but I won't. I will just say that the description was bad and annoying the hell out of me. If you want to describe something, hey, why not just repeat what you've said in the previous chapter; just add a couple of adjectives and a comma.
The wolves scent, the winter, the eyes, the fur. Yes, yes. I know, it's important to mention that again. And again. But all of this could be ignored if not for these things: The way her "affection" and "relationship" with the wolf is described makes me feel sick.
It borders with bestiality and I don't care if there is an explanation at the end of the book why she is drawn to him-she meets the wolf and obsesses about him before she finds out that he is human. She feels something for the animal. This is not sweet, romantic or anything like that.
It's wrong. Another thing that bugs me is the scene where she takes a complete stranger to her bed because, oh, there is something special about him, and, surprisingly, her parents are out of town or something so there is no danger of them entering the room and asking funny questions. Because, parents are a nuisance and no one needs to her them preach.
Of course, don't fear, nothing happens. Even if Grace is needy and willing, and Sam smells good oh, stop, please! He needs to resist, they both need to resist their urges because this is a book for young adults and it should give the audience a good message.
I just cannot figure out what kind of a message. All in all, it's just another book with annoying characters and a typical love-conquers-all storyline. It does not offer anything new, so I recommend you go and find something else to read. Don't be fooled by the positive comments or the number of copies sold.
