The book includes pull-out cardstock sheets to construct the four models on the cover, as well as for a variety of cams and crank mechanisms that can be used for your own models. There is a section with pictures of various automata created by the author, as well as a collection from high school students.

Keisuke Saka's automata are attractive and whimsical. The next section covers the basic automata mechanisms: levers, cams, cranks, gea This book is an excellent book for making papercraft automata.

The next section covers the basic automata mechanisms: levers, cams, cranks, gears, linkages and a "geneva stop". The explanations are detailed and well written, and the full-color illustrations of how the mechanisms work are excellent. Pull-out sheets to create various cam, crank, gear and geneva stop mechanisms are included in the book.

You can build them, and experience them firsthand to better understand how they work. The pull-out sheets require cutting and assembly; not for the patience-challenged. I had no trouble following the instructions for any of the four models pictured on the cover. The general "basic paper crafting techniques" description is worth reading and observing while constructing the models. In particular, remember to score before folding for cripser folds!

I got this book expecting only the plans for the four models on the cover, and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of coverage of the mechanisms, and the project pages for all of the different mechanisms.
